AVON, Ohio (August 2013) – Remember that story about the pilot in Alaska who repaired his bear-ravaged plane with duct tape to fly home? Or the time you were the hero and used duct tape to save your family vacation from an early conclusion? And can you believe astronauts used duct tape to save the Apollo 13 space mission? What started as a battlefield repair tool has truly become a classic American fix-all, helping us out of sticky situations throughout the years. You've heard that there are a million-and-one uses for duct tape, and everyone has a duct tape story - we know because people love to share their stories with us. So we figured, why not offer up the chance to win some cash?

Now, you can share your very own tale of triumph with Duck® brand duct tape to win the $1,000 grand prize or one of 50 exclusive Duck Tape® tins (with a roll of original silver Duck Tape®) in the Duck Tape®‘Saves the Day’ Story Contest*. Submit your best tale to the Duck Tape® page on Facebook® from Aug. 26, 2013, through Oct. 28, 2013. Winners will be announced on or about Nov. 14, 2013.

“Duct tape has been saving the day since its invention in World War II to help seal canisters, fix cracked windows and repair trucks. And, today, it's used to fix everything from a broken taillight to a purse strap to a cell phone case,” said Scott Sommers, director of marketing for DIY Tapes at ShurTech Brands, LLC, the company that markets Duck Tape®. “Even if you're not a Duck Tape® enthusiast, you probably have a story of how duct tape saved your day, and we can't wait to hear from people about how one of history’s most invincible ideas has helped them out of a bind.”

Participants must be at least 13 years old and tell their story, in 300 words or fewer, about how Duck Tape® saved their day. A panel of judges from Duck® brand will choose the winner based on creativity, the unique use of duct tape and grammar. The winner’s story will be displayed on the Duck Tape® page on Facebook.
